Ok so let me start out with saying I appreciate BotoX effort to still try and improve zombie escape with changes. I think I can speak for everyone we are all open for trying new changes and if it makes ZE better to keep things permanent. BotoX has put a lot of effort into making adjustments to servers for years and I know he doesn't have bad intentions. The 0 PING implementation which generally is imo very promising. A great idea I didn't know was possible. Don't think I want to take it away cuz of revenge feelings cuz my fav maps were always on US ze servers with a higher ping. I just want to play ZE fair.

Which is why I made this topic. I think it is a good idea for the next month to check your demos if you feel you randomly died and if it was questionable record it and put it into this topic. This way BotoX and other tech might come with bugfixing (if there are any), you get to know actual hitboxes in maps or maybe removal of 0 ping altogether if it remains troublesome. Anyway the point of this thread is to get knowledge and discussion on current 0 ping. Blaming 0 ping on server after you just died doesn't help anyone.

Ok so I have this example. I rewatched it many many times but since I beat mako ex2 like a 1000 times I should know by now what will hit me. It just doesn't feel right so I recorded the clip slow-motion. These demos are all offline recorded with true 0 ping:

I know it's fucking close call to say, since I could have had higher ping which therefore delayed my death animation, but the hitbox doesn't show a large height dimension and I nearly always have ~40 ping.

Anyway share your questionable deaths and lets go from there.

On the video it just seems like you jumped too early and jumped on the laser which is normal behaviour I think since you're still used to the pre-lag comp. which caused you to jump earlier. I could be wrong though.

Yeah it definetly looks like you jumped too early and landed on top of the laser.

Edit: did you get that demo from the server or did you record it yourself?

It's my own demo
BotoX said all unloze demos will look like u jump on laser despite dodging, which is why I record them myself.
 
Could it be that you were lagging, the laser is kind of teleporting around in your demo?
Other than that you jumped kinda early and landed on the laser, but in thirdperson it looks like you could've missed the front of it.
But then again when you are falling the hitbox is kinda scuffed on the player, were you crouchjumping or normal? (looks like normal jump not crouch)
Also since the laser is moving odd in your demo no way to tell if it's even accurate.
When was that demo taken?

Can you imagine being so upset about being bad at jumping lasers, that you have to question the game and devs themselves instead of blaming your sorry ass for dying on a laser, just cause you jumped too damn early?

i'm not a laser pornstar but i'm doing ok with lasers in general, and these last days i kept dying at lasers. Same as u with ex2 mako, and even on surf_vortex E TU. My first thought from this which came instantly in my mind was "did they changed jump settings or smth?" but apparently it can be that 0 ping thing.
This being said, if u had like 60ms as ping on your game session from your demo, you would have not died and i'm quiet sure. I do it like you, I do also jump lasers early or very early kind of, and I usually dont die, but since there is that 0 ping thing i do. Thing is I usually play with 50 ms approx but i dont know about you ?

This is all in your biased perception. I guess you have just been bad at jumping lately because the 0 ping lag compensation has been around for quite a long while now.
 
Looking at that demo, you clearly jumped early enough to barely clip the back edge of the laser's trigger, which only shows that the plugin is working perfectly as intended in this case.

Your hitbox when you jump is lower than you think.

@xen, here it gets interesting. What is the hitbox you are showcasing here?

Sadly I can't simulate this in-demo because you need to use +attack to create the lines.

I always assumed this was the hitbox that was used for hurting triggers. Is this yellow box the real interaction with lasers?

Yes, the yellow box is the player's entity bounding box (aka its collision hull), and it is what collides with everything (floors, boxes, triggers, and so on). To see it offline, type cl_ent_bbox 1 while in third person.

The other hitbox is purely for bullets, because it would be too costly to use it for collisions. There's also the player model's collision which is used for ragdolls mainly.
 
this implementation is better for me. due to the fact that i play from asia and ping to the server minimum of 70-80 in the best, it was difficult to play on lasers before that.
 
@FierceG Yes i know dude but I was talking about your usual ping, beforce this 0 ping change.
@William! :D I play'd only few at css since a good period so that can explain why I felt the difference just recently. But i was positive smth changed and it must be this 0 ping thing since my situation kinda makes me think about fierce's one.

Otherwise i'm not saying bad or good but just trying to understand. And if I had to tell I'd say good thing. Will just need to get used to it.
