Compare the military technology of WWI with today's military technology. How does each period's technology affect the outcome and consequences of war?
This sounds like I'm doing someones homework but sure
During ww1 it was pretty much trench warfare, both sides built trenches and then one side charged and then the enemies. It just went back and forth with not a lot of progress. Since attacking the opponent's trenches lead to massive casualties, there were some technology that was developed during this fighting. The Germans chose to develop a chemical weapon, but it didn't work out to well. The chlorine gas was a bit of a double edged sword, since sometimes the wind would change direction and the gas would be blown towards the Germans instead. The allies responded with gas masks and protection against gas while developing their own chemical weapon and the Germans did the same after that. Making the advantage of chemical weapons a bit obsolete. The British came also up with a tank called the mark I. It's main purpose was to be able to withstand machinegun fire and smaller arms while also being able to traverse through rough terrain and crush barbed wire. The tank was introduced quite late into the war and it certainly surprised the Germans since they had no real way to counter it also they got really into tanks during ww2.
The Germans also had u boats that was called U-21 which was quite the threat for the British since there was no real way to detect them. So British scientist came up with 2 solutions, one was depth charges and the other one was an underwater listening device. Outside of that it's pretty much improving artillery which played a major role but i don't know shit about artillery, and the improvements to the machinegun like air cooling which airplanes had to use. Airplanes was just made of wood and was used for scouting, then later the Germans mounted guns on their planes and the allies responded with the same thing that resulted in dogfighting
WW1 wasn't really about either side outplaying the other through technology because the opposite side just developed their own copy of it or a way to counter it. It was mostly about people getting sick of war and food became more scarce while there wasnt enough manpower for either side. Germany started to lose the war when the Americans decided to help the allies
The result of this war or the positive is that they made the Geneva protocol which bans chemical weapons in wars
I know quite a lot about ww1 and 2 but i'm not super up to date with the current military technology but i can write in some stuff i know.
Currently tanks are becoming obsolete because they cost to much and they're quite easy to destroy. Instead of bolt action rifles countries have made full auto rifles instead. Improved protection gear like better helmets. Satellites does the scouting instead of having an airplane doing it. Better communication technology. Creation of nukes and other crazy chemical weapons
