Collaborative Speedrun Event Suggestion

Hi Unloze, hope all is well.

I am writing this post today to suggest a friendly competition amongst any of the currently existing ZE servings, primarily, Nide, GFL and Unloze.

I'm suggesting each server host an event where we all compete to see who can speedrun a set of maps the fastest with the same settings being used for all servers, would this be something you guys are interested in? It would serve as a friendly competition, foster a collaborative spirit and hopefully introduce your community to players who haven't been there before.

I'm suggesting we speedrun the following maps:

Additionally, I think some maps, i.e. ze_icecap_escape_v3 or ze_predator_ultimate_v3 or ze_boatescape6_remix_fix2 could replace the maps but wanted to ask everyone what they thought.

Suggested Rules:

  • 2000 Ammo for all guns & no Rebuys
  • Bhop Enabled
  • Sv_air_accelerate 10
  • PF settings for the rest
I'm open to discussing the rules, however they need to be universal settings so everyone can have a fair and equal chance, additionally, as it's a speedrun, it would be your time on each map from spawn in until the end of map screen, we can use demos to time additionally. What do you think?

Recently I suggested an idea privately to a few people and wanted to reach out to everyone and see if it vibed with them. Please do let me know what maps you think would be fun to speedrun / you wouldn't mind resetting. Also let me know any setting preferences you would have. Thanks.

Update: Based on Keen's suggestion, I'm now offering to give the winning server 25 USD, and host a poll following the event to provide the winning server's MVP (whoever members of the winning server vote) 25 USD prize as well.

I think its a fun idea, is a prize involved in the competition or is the honor of victory and prestige is enough? Would you somehow "disqualify" the same players from playing in the event on all the servers?

Realistically I don't think players should be restricted from joining other servers simply due to the fact it may be too much to administrate and half the fun of the idea is involving multiple communities that while overlapping, don't work together as a group very often. I would assume players would primarily play on their 'favorite' server and hopefully not double dip. Also, I wasn't going to add a prize, but I'd be happy to give 25 USD to the winning server and hold a poll in the winning server to give 25 USD to the team's MVP. Thank you for your suggestion!

i like the idea but isn't nide skipping 1st stage on mako and adding extra (bad) modes on potc, making it probably easier for them to move on than everyone else?
Idk about gfl's changes but I believe they are the same as unloze
Also do you intend adding fall damage in frostdrake?

I would note, stripper changes, config settings and other map updates would be universal so no server would have any advantage. Also I don't want to add fall damage if it means slower runs, the goal of this is to push players to go faster for a measure able competition, if players find a way to surf or bhop or do something faster, they should be rewarded imo. I'm open to a discussion on this though, why would you want fall damage? Thanks for the feedback btw Mini

It's good that people will start the same path, I guess there would be small differences but I'm pretty sure that might get discussed into the future

Regarding fall damage, it is debatable whether it's picked or not, but there are 2 main points on why i mentioned it and might want to have it for the speedrun event :
1. Fall damage is a part of the pf settings. You mentioned and i quote "PF settings for the rest" which assumed, included fall damage on maps
2. Fall damage by itself makes people way more aware of playing the game, makes the speedrun actually challenging as if people make a mistake then they need to redo the stage + it will not depend on just how fast you can trigger by the server tickrate (aka how often u hit perfs to trigger)
In short you don't judge all the way by how fast that is but also how effective or impressive that is.

Also, the reason why i asked about fall damage in frostdrake, AND NOT IN GENERAL is because it's impossible to win the map with it lol. It would be fun with fall damage on the possible maps if it's chosen ngl

Hey Mini, thanks for the heads up, in that case I'll keep fall damage in mind. Appreciate the feedback and discussion as always, specifically regarding impressive versus non impressive, I recommended no fall damage just due to the fact I don't see many nide players or gfl players enjoying the event with fall damage on due to the fact no one is used to it anymore due to a shift away from the mechanic in most ze servers. While fall damage is a part of PF settings, I'm using pf settings as a bit of a base. I'll keep your thought in mind and really do appreciate the feedback.
