It truly has been 10 years. Often we talked about reaching this milestone and now that the milestone is actually here i came to realize that many people who i talked about celebrating the milestone with, are long gone. But they are not forgotten and i wish to cheer this moment on with all the people in mind who are in absence but still made UNLOZE worth the experience over all these years. It does feel difficult for me to keep track of the passage of time in UNLOZE to be honest. I am supposed to remember everything that we did at the very beginning but then also all the things that happened afterwards and that keep on happening.
Its more and more history. Most people are only around for a certain period of time like a few years and therefore only remember UNLOZE for that time period, but the longer you stick around the more you are supposed to remember. Who was the first admin? it was @Géovanni and dude it is super cool that we still see you from time to time.
The second admin we had was a very sarcastic guy from spain called dante who probably died of cancer by now as he was diagnosed with it back then already. He used to play on GFL ze with me back in the old days. Althought most people did not really care about the dude but hey i bothered to remember him.
The third admin is the last one who gets a shout out for the beginning of UNLOZE. His name was Evolution and he was a guy from Denmark who also was an admin for me in my old danish community called ZK back in 2012. It was fairly cool that he moved with me to UNLOZE at the beginning but yeah he jumped out fairly fast. none the less i know he was there with me in ZK and also went with me to UNLOZE at the beginning.
@tb (george) is long gone. he was just around here in 2015 to 2017 if i remember correct. you have to be an old player for having talked with george on voice chat. George joined 3 months after me and @Nick (killer-banana) from GFL had started this gaming community. Nick explained me from the beginning however that he was just there to learn the technical aspects of configuring the server and plugins and such and said that he would step out of the community again in due time. And so he did in 2016 i guess it was. Both george and Nick kinda set the milestone for the leadership together with me at the beginning of UNLOZE. But yeah now its just me left i suppose. There was also the very turbulent time where rushaway, me and george as a trio tried doing the leadership but the french and the british started fighting each other as usual.
and yeah. that kinda is the beginning basically of UNLOZE, the beginning always matters because its where the story starts. The beginning is always relevant to define where we got today, so i cant ignore or stop paying homage to the influence the original generation had on this community as a whole.
Everything afterwards was the n3xt merge (@Bird Is The Word is the only guy alive from these ancient times still), meme calls, IRL meet ups, photo albums, betrayals and drama, witnessing the hostile takeover of GFL css ze, witnessing the downfall of GFL.ru, wetnessing botox getting over here and doing the same thing again to UNLOZE, playing a very painful cat and mouse game and then the fucking datacenter literally just burning down. The closest i ever was to giving up on unloze was when botox was haunting the machine as a ghost exactly the same way that he haunted the GFL machine as a ghost pre gflclan.ru takeover. But where juky failed GFL CSS as a whole i stood my ground for UNLOZE and we still are here today with players keeping us as relevant as ever.
well while the first years had uncertaintanties i dont see at this point us disappearing any time soon anymore. UNLOZE today is a core group of people that can call each other friends most of the time, its almost only me and @Kriesley that are still active from the original group in 2015. @Glacius Verglas also still shows up from time to time to talk about stuff and i am happy for that. We have a modern core and its almost an entirely different group from the original, and i guess thats the beauty in it because despite time moving on and people joining and people leaving the feel of friendship is still there and makes it worthwhile the experience.
To validate that we are staying here for a while still i wanted us to finally have a new logo to replace the one originally made by @Calig . A new logo should show that we stay here for a while, althought i am atm not too impressed with most of the submissions we got. Potentially i might overrule it if we really dont think anything is fitting and just use the original logo by george that still can be found on some maps like shroomforest and frozentemple.
For the 10th anniversary we will be giving out free vip for probably a week or maybe longer. We will host events that are varied, most 1 or 2 days will be tryhard maps and the other days will be casual/fun events. We roll them out over the coming days as we feel ready. We dont have an actual time limit for how long we want the 10th anniversary to be considered active but i suppose a full week should seem right. We will see as time goes on what we decide on.
People will be able to win rewards such as very long vip durations, we will enable the black friday sale again, people will be able to win special 10th anniversary playermodels for zombie escape and maybe we will also hand out permanent vip as a potential reward. I personally really think having permanent vip as a reward should showcase that the 10th anniversary is a special ocassion althought others disagree with me that its too much to do. We will see about it.
Zombie escape will also have a special festivity organized by @Shino. He will tell more about it soon in his own announcement.
We decided not to include the ZR server for the 10th anniversary. We did not feel it would be worthwhile enough to include because it would feel more like a chore than fun for most of the unloze players. We will most likely host MG events because MG deserves to be included.
We will one day also disable the ingame voice chat to have people come talk on the discord voice chat instead with us for a pace of change.
For me its pretty unlucky that i only can talk ingame atm if i disable the torchlight. It comes some in the way because i know people want to enjoy torchlight. So that puts me and all other linux users at disadvantage for the 10th anniversary. Very unlucky that such bugs were introduced barely a few months before our 10th anniversary. But yeah what can we do? We got some nice new tools (vscript) and are very thankful for the possibilities ahead of us now. The voice chat for linux will be fixed eventually but it was not do-able in time for the anniversary it would seem.
@Glacius Verglas will also create an event on the forum itself. He will probably tell more about it.
Most of the events on ze i hope will be fun stuff like admin prop spawn event on maps like predator or mako. Also great would be admin abuse/Lifeblood of Zombie Escape events held and maybe also a surf event or semi casual maps with blind vip. All admins are heavily encouraged to just start rolling out events for the 10th anniversary. Its early bird principle. the first guy makes an event and all after following events just have to schedule around the time slots already taken.
@Pelmen will hopefully also get a sveen coop event going or even multiple. We will ping people on both discords for all events so please come join them to check out news there or here on the forum as we roll them out.
Well in overall one might ask if we have any aims for the future. and the answer is that we still care to develop the game servers that we have in our free time but we dont seem to have much motivation atm for trying to move over to new games. Outisde of that there is also still the usual managing of the community and administration related tasks that we do. that can of course change at random points in the future if we get time and motivation to try other video games for our community. I might also still like to open a css surf death match server for fun to see how it would go, just as a tiny thing. But yeah for myself my personal ambitions going forward is just still to make more features or content around unloze like i already have done so far.
That is probably all planned for now. We might come with more things as we go along the way such as playing other video games together that were not mentioned currently. Personally i am still busy focusing on my thesis that i have to defend in 9 days which takes time. Again thanks to everybody who has been here in the last 10 years and made UNLOZE what it is today. May we celebrate many more years to come with new faces to meet, many convos still to be had and also hopefully many new entertaining maps to keep the gameplay going. Thanks everyone!
